Douglas initially trained as a chef in the UK and Switzerland. He worked in several places including The Savoy and the kitchens of Windsor Castle where he cooked for the Queen. Douglas moved to Guernsey in 1975 and worked for the family business, eventually running his own restaurant.
In 1991, Douglas decided he would like a career change and began his Insurance career. Douglas worked at Islands Insurance for 16 years as Business Development Manager, learning the world of insurance.
Douglas and his wife June purchased Network in June 2006. Since they took over Network, it has grown and developed from a small company of 6, to one of the largest brokers in Guernsey.
Douglas handed the reigns of the company over to his son, Oliver, in June 2012 and eventually retired in June 2020, although he still likes to pop into the office most days and assists with claims management.
